Our history in Morocco

Half a century of experience and professionalism

1946

Founding of the company ‘PRODUITS GEIGY (Maroc)’ S.A.

1948

Founding of SOMADIC in Morocco (by GEIGY France) to market crop protection products and household insecticides.

1971

Introduction of the various products on the Moroccan market through direct and indirect sales as well as through agents.

1971

SOMADIC becomes CIBA-GEIGY (Maroc) S.A., with a share capital of MAD 0.8 million, also taking in the dyes and Agro CIBA businesses.

1972

Incorporation of the APP and medical information divisions.

1974

Moroccanisation of CIBA-GEIGY (Maroc) and change of company name to ‘SOMACHIM’ (Moroccan-Swiss company for the chemical industry).

1974

PRODUITS GEIGY (MAROC) renamed SOPINCO (industrial and commercial holding company) with a share capital of MAD 2 million.

1983

SOMACHIM S.A.’s share capital increased to MAD 3 million.

1985

A formulation workshop for the Agro division set up in rented premises, an investment of MAD 2.3 million.

1997

Creation of Novartis S.A. following the merger of CIBA-GEIGY and SANDOZ, and divestment of the dyes, polymers and additives businesses.

1998

The finance department split into two separate entities, one for Novartis Pharma and one for Novartis Agro.

1998

Closure of the agro production plant.

2000

Separation of the Pharma and Agro businesses.

2000

Sale of the Animal Health business to SEVA.

2000

Novartis Agro moves from Boulevard Chefchaouni to the Oukacha business park.

2000

Creation of Syngenta, a world leader in agribusiness, following the merger of the agro divisions of Novartis and AstraZeneca.

2001

Change of company name: Novartis Maroc SA becomes Syngenta Maroc S.A.
